MAXXDRIVE® XD: Designed for Hoisting Applications

The MAXXDRIVE® XD industrial gear unit is engineered for hoisting applications. Its extended center distance supports the typical layout of hoist drives, allowing the motor and rope drum to be mounted on the same side of the gear unit. XD stands for eXtended center Distance.

Ideal for hoists

The Challenge
Hoisting applications require the right gear unit size to achieve the required torque without unnecessary oversizing. An increased center distance allows the motor and rope drum to be mounted on the same side of the gear unit, simplifying the drive arrangement while helping reduce overall system size and cost.

The Solution
With center distances up to 1,281 mm, the MAXXDRIVE XD offers one of the largest standard center distances available. Its FEM optimized housing with additional mounting pockets is designed to withstand high radial loads. Available in 3 and 4 stage versions with identical housing dimensions, the series covers torque ratings from 15,000 to 282,000 Nm.

MAXXDRIVE in Action: Crane Applications

PROTEA, a Polish manufacturer of lifting systems, relies on NORD drive solutions for crane applications, including an overhead crane used to transport straw bales in a biogas facility. The system includes two independently operated rail mounted cranes, each equipped with a trolley and winch.

  • The hoisting mechanism uses an 18.5 kW MAXXDRIVE industrial gear unit with a NORD motor mounted via an IEC adapter, featuring an integrated brake and encoder
  • The crane and trolley are driven by NORD gearmotors rated at 0.55 kW and 11 kW, respectively.
